Quotes from our GP's

"Recreational sex is just as important as reproductive sex"
"just as much fun in the bedroom but less willing to speak to a doctor about it"
"Still treating patients in their 70's with STI's"
"Women in their 50's and 60's always appear embarrassed"
"Maintaining sexual activity in later life can have a positive influence on the well-being of older individuals"

The over 45's seem to get forgotten in the grand scheme of all things sexual. Our modern ideas of dating later in life perhaps after divorce, speed dating, online dating, swinging parties, singles cruises etc, the over 45s are far more promiscuous than they used to be and this is leading to a concerning increase in STI's in this age group. The taboo's that used to surrounded sex & older people are now falling away but, as in all age groups, it's sometimes still a problem to talk about. If you are embarking on a new sexual relationship you might want to consider a 'clean slate' test - OPTION 3 and above will suffice. Factors which tend to affect the older generation and sex incontinence during sex (mainly women) Erectile issues (dysfunction & premature ejaculation) Reduced lubrication (women) Pain during intercourse Lack of libido.

If you are having sex with one or more partners you are still at risk from exactly the same sexually transmitted infections and diseases as the younger 'more promiscuous' generations. Condoms were used mainly for protection against pregnancy, nowadays they are vital to protect against STI's. It doesn’t matter if you have had a vasectomy or a hysterectomy you can still catch sexually transmitted diseases.
