What is Gonorrhoea?
It's a bacterial
infection, sexually transmitted and can affect the cervix, urethra,
rectum, anus and throat. It was given the nickname of 'the clap'
when the penis would be 'clapped' on both sides simultaneously to
clear the blockage. The incidence of gonorrhoea is increasing in
both men and women whether straight or gay.
How do you get it?
Oral sex, Kissing &
Touching. Unprotected penetrative sex is not necessary to catch
Gonorrhoea.
What are the
symptoms?
Like Chlamydia, there
will often be no symptoms so we recommend our OPTION 2 test which covers both.

What can I do?
A urine test for men
and swab for women posted to you for next day delivery (if order received by 1600) after you
have posted this back to our lab we will contact you with your result
within 2-3 days.
* Note that the home test is unlikely to detect signs of infection caught within the last 2 weeks.
What if its positive?
Well, we certainly
don't need to 'clap' your penis anymore! Our Dr's can
prescribe a 7-day treatment by post, which should clear it up. Some
strains of gonorrhoea are resistant to the usual treatments
(especially if caught abroad) and re-testing after treatment is
advised. It will be important to get your partner tested too and a
full screen should be done for other STIs.
